BLOOMINGTON - A local memorial service and inurnment for Terry L. Vliet, 55, of Montague, N.J., formerly of Bloomington, will be at a later date. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

He died of 12:15 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 15, 2002) at Overlook Hospital, Summit, N.J.

Memorials may be made to Community Cancer Center, 407 E. Vernon Ave., Normal, IL 61761.

He was born June 9, 1947, in Bloomington, a son of Arthur L. and Bettie L. Foreman Vliet.

Surviving are one son, Benjamin (Kara) Vliet, Winter Haven, Fla.; two daughters, Michelle (Mark) Brubaker, Englishtown, N.J., and Rachelle (Jimmy) Waldron, West Orange, N.J.; two grandchildren, Lydia Grace Brubaker and Ryan James Waldron; and one sister, Darcie L. (David) Jones, Downs.

His parents preceded him in death.

He was a member of Philadelphia Church, Oak Ridge, N.J. He was a graduate of Bloomington High School, class of 1965. He graduated from Eureka College with a bachelor's degree in History and earned a Masters of Education from Illinois State University. He later attended Elim Bible Institute becoming a licensed pastor.

He served as director of the Day School at Evangel Church in Elizabeth, N.J. He went on to be a History teacher in Newark, N.J., and began a practice in marriage and family counseling in Montclair, N.J. At the time of his death he was a learning disabilities teacher/consultant and was a part-time mental health professional.

He was a loving devoted son, father, grandpa, brother and friend.

Sandy Weber (Bumpus)

Terry was in homeroom with the rest of the bunch throughout high school.  Our homeroom was the band room...a homeroom full of great kids and a great space to collect yourself before starting your day.  Terry was a great guy.   He died on December 15, 2002.  Sandy Weber Bumpus
