Allen Gaston

Allan C. Gaston, 50, of New Orleans, La., formerly of Bloomington, died Tuesday (Nov. 11, 1997) at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, New Orleans.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Bloomington. He was cremated.

Surviving are six brothers, Robert Gaston Jr. and Eric Gaston, both of Florida; David Gaston, Springfield; and Michael, James and Gary Gaston, all of Bloomington; and five sisters, Jewell Curtis, Springfield; Diane McDowell, Peoria; Sherrie Moore, Texas; Ramona Samuels, Chicago; and Treyce Spears, Bloomington. He will be missed by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Gaston Sr. and Gloria M. Gaston, and a niece, Ramyka L. Gaither. Mr. Gaston was a graduate of Bloomington High School and Illinois State University, Normal. In 1990, he graduated from the Mennonite College of Nursing. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army, serving more than 20 years in various overseas locations, including the Vietnam War. He spent 10 years in the 2nd M.A.S.H. Forscom F.C., Medical Corps. Mr. Gaston retired with the rank of first sergeant.
