Malter Arndt

WASHINGTON - Malter "Mike" W. Arndt, 67, of Washington passed away at 4:25 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at his residence.

Mike was born Feb. 22, 1947, in Bloomington to Wilbur and Lisleen Arndt. He married Sharon Nunamaker on Aug. 6, 1965, in Bloomington. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Janice (Scott) Niemeyer of Creve Coeur, Teresa (Bob) Pheasant of Washington and Michael (Lindsay) Arndt of Morton; siblings, William (Suzanne) Arndt of Mattoon, Charles (Patricia) Arndt of Austin, Texas, and Kimberly (John) Filter of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Zachery Martin, Ryan Pheasant, Sydney Pheasant, Nicholas Arndt and Molly Arndt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sandra Miller; and an infant brother, Willis Arndt.

Mike was a 1965 graduate of Bloomington Community High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. He worked as an auto glass installer in the local area for 38 years.

Mike cherished his time with his grandchildren, watching drag racing, woodworking and doing puzzles.

There will be a funeral service for Mike on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Steve Hardin will officiate. There will be a visitation two hours prior, from 4 to 6 p.m. The family requests that those attending the service for Mike wear casual, outdoor attire. Cremation rites will be accorded following services.

Malter, somehow I never knew you in school, although Ron did!  But I am good friends with your sister, Kim, and I know how much she misses you.  Through Ron and Kim I feel that had we met I would have also been your friend!!
